Siteground Startup Plan Review 2023: Why I Prefer Growbig vs Startup!

It’s my guess that if you are reading this Siteground Startup Plan Review that you are a beginner at web hosting. Likely you are trying to create your first website and wondering if the Siteground Startup is best for you or is it just better to use another provider? Many people just like YOU ask this same question about web hosting, but don’t fret, I have the answer for you today in this review!

What To Expect In This Siteground Startup Plan Review for 2023?

If you are new, you will learn all about what the Siteground Startup offers, what I personally think about it and the company. Hopefully by the end of this review, you will have enough info to make a solid decision to signup with Siteground just like I did a year ago!

Disclaimer: This page contains affiliate links, When clicked and a purchase is made, I receive a modest referral commission. This doesn’t affect your pricing at all, rather helps me continue to run test to provide good review like this Siteground Startup Plan Review.

To date, I have several blogs that are hosted at Siteground. They are great & I really like them being they have great customer service & are a very rock solid web hosting company.

But I must say up front that NOW I personally use the 2-tier GrowBig shared hosting plan being it gives me as a blogger more wiggle room to create multiple websites online. If you are a blogger and would like to do the same thing, then I recommend using the Growbig hosting plans over Startup especially if you want to do affiliate marketing. It’s also great for network marketing, an Amazon affiliate or if you simply just need to create more blogs or websites.

However for the the sake of this review, I wanted to help you see the benefits of the Startup Plan as it is the absolute BEST web hosting for beginners. Why? Simple. It doesn’t provide too much, but is exactly what you will need to get started online and grow your business.

Siteground Startup Plan Review: The Hosting Plans Updated

The video above reflects the pricing of Siteground web hosting plans before when I initially got started with Siteground. However, they have updated recently their pricing and you will see this below with the graph.

Siteground Startup Plan Review

As you can see above in the chart, Siteground has 3 shared web hosting plans to select from: StartUp, GrowBig and Gogeek. When comparing the previous pricing with the current, this represents a $3 increase. Siteground has implemented some huge changes in their infrastructure and page loads which warrant this increase. Overall I still recommend using Siteground web hosting to create websites, blogs and eCommerce stores online.

In this Siteground StartUp Plan review we will focus now on the benefits of using StartUp plan.

Costs: $6.99/month Deal [normally $14.99/month]

Features:

  • Can host 1 website
  • 10 GB web space
  • Great for 10,000 monthly visits
  • Free Website Builder
  • cPanel & SSH Access
  • 24/7 Technical Support
  • SSD Storage
  • Free Auto Daily Backups
  • Free CMS Install [great for beginners & non-techies]
  • Unlimited Email Accts & Databases
  • Free Let’s Encrypt SSL’s
  • Free Cloudflare CDN
  • GDPR compliant

Should You Use The Siteground Startup Plan?

Absolutely!!

In this Siteground Startup plan review however, I wanted to highlight that this plan is ideal for beginners to create their first websites online with no experience.

If you want to have an small sized blog, business website or online shop with some products, it works great. However, as mentioned above, this plan will handle up to 10,000 monthly visits initially.

As your website traffic and page views grow over time, then it would be great to upgrade to the Growbig plan that I prefer. The GB plan gives 25,000 visits and allows me to add multiple domains in cPanel & create unlimited websites. The good thing is that Siteground makes it really easy to scale up as your site grows over time. I have been able to create several websites using the Growbig and actually prefer it over the Startup hosting plan.

Pros of Using Siteground Startup Plan?

It is very cheap web hosting that is easy to setup for beginners. There is a 1-click installation that creates your website upon activation. No coding experience at is needed to create your website. Siteground will install your theme, suggest free WordPress plugins and install them with 1 click! The awesome thing that they will also do for you is install WordPress on your domain!

This is one of the many benefits of selecting the StartUp hosting plan to create websites. I love that Siteground sort of walks you by the hand and helps you create your WordPress websites online. This step-by-step process is great especially for beginners who have never created a site before. There is no need to have any coding or html experience at all.

Of all of the web hosting providers that I have used and seen online, none of them will help beginners to this extent. You basically have to figure it out all by yourself online which can be quite frustrating if you have never installed WordPress, plugins or themes. This is another reason why in this Siteground Startup plan review I recommend that beginners start with this plan.

Another reason to use in the beginning is although has some limited resources, most beginners will not see all of them at first. Keep reading to see why..

Cons of Using Siteground Startup Plan?

There are only a couple of cons that are not deal breakers for beginners. As I just mentioned in this Siteground StartUp plan review, there are some limited resources with this plan. However, I strongly think that depend on your circumstances and personal needs, this may be all that beginners need.

For example, the Siteground Startup Plan:

  • You can only create 1 website, blog or eCommerce store
  • It handles up to 10,000 monthly visitors
  • 10 GB of web space
  • It renews at $14.99/month when web hosting term ends

Are 10GB of web space and 10,000 monthly visits enough resources?

When I initially got started with Siteground some time back I asked myself this very same question. You may be wondering how much disk space do you need?

The thing that I learned is that for most sites online with very low traffic that don’t use high resolution videos and photos only need about 1GB or less. However, if you are using lots of images and text, then perhaps 3 – 5 GB should be just right for your situation. This should be enough if your visitors will be downloading large multimedia files.

So basically what I am getting at is that if you are a beginner, then there no need for more transfer bandwidth when you are just starting our online. The reason is because you don’t have any visitor yet and this will take to build your website site traffic over time.

So essentially 10 GB of web space is enough for a website when you understand how bandwidth affects performance.

Siteground Startup Hosting Plan Renewals

Every web hosting has special offers and introductory pricing that gives cheaper rates to get started. In the case of the Siteground Startup plan is starts at only $6.99/month. This brings it roughly to about only $83.88 for 1 year Siteground Startup hosting.

However, if you only buy 1 year of Siteground Startup hosting, then the monthly rates will jump up to $14.99/month on your 2nd year. This means that you will be paying twice as much for the same hosting plan and your yearly ticket will be $179.88 for 12 months.

If you were to buy upfront, then this is what you be paying respectively:

  • $6.99/month x 12 months = $83.88/year
  • $6.99/month x 24 months = $167.76/year
  • $6.99/month x 36 months = $251.64/year

What do I recommend to save money? What I recommend that you do when you signup with the Startup hosting plan is to buy more web hosting. If you are serious about your business online and are in it for the long haul, then it’s to buy perhaps 3 years of web hosting upfront. Why? When you do this you will save more money both on the front and back end which makes it a wiser decision.

If you are a newbie online, then there is something that you should know and understand in this Siteground Startup Plan review. All web hosting providers online no matter who they typically will offer cheaper rates in the beginning. This is the case if you checkout any Siteground hosting alternatives online.

So being that this is the case, it’s always best to buy more upfront to save more money down the road.

Bottom Line?

These minor restrictions are not so bad for beginners being you don’t need a lot of resources anyway. What I love about Siteground in general is that they only charge you for the resources that you use.

As your website grows over time you can easily scale up with ease. There is no need to pay more for what you don’t need, right? That’s why I highly recommend that beginners to use the Siteground Startup hosting plan first to create websites.

If you are doing the 1 year Siteground Startup hosting, then the plan is only $6.99/month. It is really affordable for anybody to get started online.

Siteground has amazing website speed performance with its servers and has awesome customer support. All of the website builders and tools that you need are available to you on your control panel.

Again, I really LOVE about Siteground is that they walk beginners by the hand step-by-step in creating their websites. They show how to to install plugins, themes, install WordPress with a click and more! No other web hosting provider does this for its users and especially beginners! For this reason, I highly recommend using them to create your website today.

Siteground Startup Plan Money Back Guarantee?

Siteground just like many of its competitors such as NameCheap, Kinsta Hosting, Scala Hosting and Accuwebhosting all offer a 30 money back guarantees. This is pretty average in this web hosting industry.

However, there are some Siteground competitors that I wanted to mention that give you more time to test such as:

Siteground StartUp Plan Review: The Uptime?

On top of their amazing customer service is their rock solid uptime performance. Siteground maintains an average of 99.99% uptime or higher on its servers. What this means is that that your website online when your visitors click on your website, then they will find you online.

siteground startup plan review

Think about why your website uptime is important. Today you are trying to create a website with Siteground. You searched for a Siteground Startup plan review and then clicked on my website. Imagine if you clicked on my website and it was “not available” or “offline” or “under maintenance”. Likely you would have clicked away and gone to another site, right?

This is a big problem that many websites have whose web hosting provider is not reliable. Thankfully, you don’t have to worry about this when you signup with Siteground. They are rock solid stable and that’s why I like them so much. You can always count on your website being up and running especially when people are searching for you online just like you did today to find this Siteground Startup plan review.

Do you get it? If you website is online, your business will make money. If your website is down, then your website loses money. Again, all of my websites online that use Siteground have great uptime and you can expect the same when you get started today.

Their strong uptime performance is why they are voted among the 3 best web hosting recommended by WordPress.org.

Speed and Performance

In addition to having great uptime, speed and performance are essential to maintaining high rankings in Google. To achieve this, Siteground gives you FREE CDNs for your website. What are CDN and why should you use them?

siteground startup plan review

According to gtmetix, a CDN or content delivery network will help to distribute and deliver your website content FAST globally to your visitors no matter where they are located. This is important because you get this no matter if you create your website using the Siteground Startup hosting plan, Growbig or Gogeek.

A CDN will prevent your website from crashing due to spikes in web traffic or surges. This could happen with virtually any website online. But thanks to Siteground your website will always be up and running online when your clients are searching for your business.

Siteground Startup Caching

It’s very important for your website to load fast with visitors. It is so important that Google uses caching for ranking websites online.

Does Siteground have caching?

Of course! To maximize your website speed performance, not Siteground Startup Caching is used, but also other measures are implemented.

Of course there are several 3rd-party WordPress caching plugins that most people can use to speed up websites, however Sitegound Startup Supercacher takes care of this for you. This is basically their very own caching solution that they have developed with you in mind.

It is available to you when you get started with your account. You can easily find it under your Site Tools > Speed > Caching.

siteground startup plan review

Now coupled with the Siteground Optimizer plugin installed, this will connect your website to their caching systems. With it, there is no need to install any 3rd-party caching solutions as you will be covered to ensure faster page loads and speeds. But do you need SG Optimizer?

Benefits of Using Siteground Optimizer:

  • It caches your website’s dynamic content and then stores it on the server RAM.
  • It caches your website’s static content like CSS files, images, flash, javascript, etc.[Nginx delivery]
  • It also uses Memcached technology which will speed up API calls, database calls, and page rendering by storing data and objects in memory. As a result this will reduce the number of times a database is queries. It’s awesome especially websites that depend on database queries.
  • Does HTML minifications, front end optimizations and more!

You must install this plugin when you signup for Siteground today.

Migrations / Site Transfers

If you currently host with another provider that you hate like WP Engine, etc, then Siteground will transfer your website for FREE! You can transfer your domain, files and data over to host with them. Some web hosting companies, although great such as Bluehost charge for this service. But Siteground will migrate it at no charge. If you host with Bluehost right now for example, you can transfer FREE from Bluehost to Siteground or any other host.

How? The cool thing guys is that Siteground has invented their very own WordPress migrator plugin that you install that make site migrations quick and hands off. The old conventional method of transferring websites is to call a web provider’s customer support or place tickets for reps to move sites. However, with Siteground this SG migrator plugin takes all of guesswork out of it and saves you lots of time and frustration.

I have been online for several years now and know that there are no other web hosting providers that make site transfers this easy! So if you are currently using another web host and would like to transfer your website, what are you waiting for? You should install the Siteground migration plugin now and move to Siteground here!

Security

Siteground has placed high importance and value on security. There was a great Youtube video that I created that talks more about this. This is another reason why I decided to use them.

If you want, you can check it out by watching it below. You will learn not only why security is so important online, but also more reasons to create your websites online using Siteground web hosting services.

Siteground Startup Plan Review: What Others Think About Siteground Web Hosting?

As part of this review I wanted to take it a step further & let you know also what others think about using Siteground web hosting services for creating websites.

You will notice that on reputable websites like Trustpilot.com Siteground is rated with an amazing 4.7-stars by customers! Not web hosting providers rate that high!

Although Siteground has many web hosting competitors, they have customer support that rocks! Trustpilot has 11,297 Siteground user reviews of people just like me and you who rave about their awesome customer service and great security. This is something that I can personally confirm that really sets them apart from others. This is why I use their web hosting to create websites online.

These are some of thousands of positive Siteground reviews found on Trustpilot.

Although I personally use the GrowBig plan to build multiple websites online, the Startup plan will be really ideal if you would like to create 1 blog or website for your business. Don’t worry. You can scale up at anytime you want as your business grows and you need additional resources. But the Startup hosting plan is your best choice if you are a beginner & this will be your first website online.

This as you will see is due largely to their amazing customer support, fast page loads and awesome uptime performance.

Being that there are no Siteground free domains, I typically will buy my domain names first at Namecheap vs Godaddy. Their after, I point them to Siteground nameservers being the web hosting is more reliable. This is the best way to save money on domain purchases online and also get FREE domain privacy protection.

Next, you will select the Startup plan for your web hosting. I recommend getting at least 36 months of web hosting for your new website. Earlier in this Siteground Startup plan review, I broke down all of the pricing so that you would understand clearly how much you will save by do it this way. Why I Prefer GrowBig Hosting vs StartUp

Now although I think that Siteground Startup plan is ideal for beginners who have never created a website online, I actually prefer GrowBig plan. Why? Not only for the additional resources and tools that you have access to, but also because you can create unlimited websites. The Startup hosting plan doesn’t allow you to do this as you are restricted to just 1 website.

Why would you need to create multiple websites online? I find that many of my readers on this blog want to create an affiliate marketing website. Is this your case? Are you promoting products or services from affiliate programs? If this is the case, then likely you will want to create several affiliate marketing websites online to promote those products. Or perhaps you have some projects down the road that you would to tackle. This is a really good reason to get the Growbig hosting plan versus the Siteground Startup hosting.

If you need hosting for Amazon affiliates, Clickbank, Shareasale, CJ, FlexOffers, Digistore24, Impact or for some another affiliate marketing program, then the GrowBig hosting is exactly what you need.

Siteground Startup vs Growbig Reddit

When you take at some Siteground Startup vs Growbig reddit conversations, some ask is Siteground worth it? You will see that many prefer Growbig while others love Startup plan. In most conversations beginners are asking if the 10 GB of web space & 10,000 monthly visitors for Startup is enough for website? I already answered this questions earlier in this Siteground Startup plan review. It’s more than enough resources for small websites being most typically use under 5 GB of web space.

However, you will see many thoughts on Siteground Growbig plan where people love it to create several websites online. They say that Siteground fits their needs perfectly. But the only complaint that you will hear is regarding the higher renewal rates on their hosting. That’s it. People rave about the great performance, fast customer support and uptime performance, but when it comes time to renew, then that’s the issue.

For example, when you signup for Siteground Growbig hosting today it will be only $9.99/month. If you only buy 1 year of web hosting, then it means your web hosting account will renew at $24.99/month.

So the breakdown would look like this if you paid up front for your Growbig hosting plan:

  • $9.99/month for 12 months is $119.88/year
  • $9.99/month for 24 months is $239.76
  • $9.99/month for 36 months is $359.64

However, if you only purchase 1 year and then it renews at $24.99/month in your 2nd year, then it means you will be paying $299.88. You can see that the renewal jumps significantly on the 2nd year. So even if you got 2 years upfront, it would only be $239.76 which is a savings. Does this make sense?

This is what some Siteground Startup vs Growbig reddit conversations talk about with users.

What I recommend in this case? It’s hard to find a web hosting provider that is super reliable with great customer support, security and uptime performance all under one hood. If you find a shared hosting that is cheaper, then the likelihood is that they will lack some sufficiently in one or more of these areas. The end result is that you come out losing, wasting more time and money when using cheaper hosts in my experience. This is just my opinion, but I wanted to shared this with you that you can make the best decision between getting Siteground Startup vs Growbig.

What I’m getting at in this Siteground Startup plan review is that if you want to build an online business with a super reliable web hosting provider, then you should expect a pay for quality and top notch service.

Siteground Startup Plan Review Conclusion

So in today’s review, we have talked about the company, the benefits of Siteground Startup vs Growbig hosting and also how is it that you can use it to easily create websites online.

One of things that you will notice when you get started today is that Siteground has a step-by-step guide that walks you through the process of setting up your website. I think that this step that Siteground has taken is really impressive being its competitors don’t go the extra mile.
